The professional SnoX tour of the Northeast, Rock Maple Racing (RMR), presents by the New England Dodge Dealers, visits Wyoming County International Speedway February 17th and 18th. SnoX is known for it’s fast pace action, like moto-cross with burms, jumps and tabletops of snow. Those who choose this extreme sport live on the edge with a focused goal; clear the big jump and finish the race up front!
Around the Western NY region, several teams have made the cut and advanced to championship status on the RMR SnoX Series. Home track fans now have the opportunity to cheer them on as the tour travels into our own backyard.
Last season, the RMR SnoX was scheduled to visit the small WNY community of Perry NY, but the lack of substantial snow around the region forced many of the tour races and our first big hometown event to be canceled. The equivalent of 700-1000 truckloads of snow need to be carefully groomed throughout the WCIS infield to create the high flying, high horsepower track. SnoX fans will be treated to grand stand seating at the Perry Motorsport facility, and be able to view the whole coarse with all its exciting action.
From Honeyoe NY, a young racer of 19 years old will challenge the snow surface of the Perry Bullring. Pete Edwards will be piloting the # 128 Polaris IQ 440 and IQ 600 mod in 3 divisions of the Perry RMR event. Sport 500, Sport 600 and ‘Sport open’ on his mod sled. But Pete won’t be alone. This is a family team headed up by his Dad, Mom, sister and younger brother. Dennis Murphy Jr. of Perry is the teams crew chief and hopes the hometown advantage may be in young team’s favor. Murphy began with Edwards Racing in the fall of 2006. The team has found some success so far this season and looks forward to competing at the remaining RMR events. Edwards Polaris Racing Team is sponsored by: Pete’s Auto, RNE Precision, Shell Race Fuels, Roetin Traction Products, Ultimate Belts, C+A Pro, V Force, RJS Exuvating, Polaris, Marland AMSOIL, Klim, Power Made and Image Out.
These supporters help to make the teams efforts more competitive as they chase the checkered flags next weekend in Perry. This is only the second season of Competition in SnoX racing for Edwards, but his experience in racing comes from snowmobile grassdrag racing at WCIS and the surrounding area. His Mom, also no stranger to high speed, for she competes in the Hotrod Division of IHRA/NHRA Drag Racing. So race fans keep your eye on Pete Edwards and his # 128 Polaris and cheer him on to victory!
From Macedon NY, former RMR Semi Pro champion of 04/05 and overall Pro Champion 05/06, Doug Wilbert returns to the circuit for the first time this season to race infront of his hometown fans in Perry. Wilbert’s “Team 300” is Skidoo powered and is no stranger to victory circle. Strong on the whole-shot and fast through the rhythm section, look to see Wilbert up front before the weekends competition is through. Dennis Murphy Jr. was also is crew chief for “Team 300” for several seasons as Wilbert’s team merged with Perry resident racers Jason and Amy Alderman and “Velocity Racing”. Although Jason’s racing was cut short due to injury, Amy Alderman is currently an official for RMR series and knows the SnoX racing well. She began her snowmobile racing at WCIS when the facility hosted their own SnoX Racing called the WNY SnoX Series. Later she went on to be crowned in the Pro-women 440 and 600 in 04/05.
As the SnoX Racing continues to grow throughout the country, a little bit of history is being etched out right here in our own backyard. Local SnoX teams continues to develop striving for the ultimate goal, winners circle and the overall championship.
