12-26-06 The forecast is cold and snowy…

Perry NY: The forecast is cold and snowy… Many people who work outdoors or have to travel to get to work, shiver at the thought of tomorrow’s forecast. Yet, more and more the enjoyment of winter activities can reach beyond the glistening of fresh, fallen snow out in the yard.

Family sledding at Letchworth, downhill skiing at Swain, cross-country skiing at Byrncliff, snowmobile clubs touring the NY State trails, ice-fishing tournaments on Silver Lake and now the Pro RMR Sno-X race at Wyoming County International Speedway.

Rock Maple Racing (RMR) organizes and promotes the biggest Sno-X tour across the north east with events spreading from New Hampshire into Upstate New York. Sno-X racing is motorcross with snowmobiles. Testing the limits of man and machine power against the moguls and jumps of a professionally designed snow course.

The Sno-X track will be laid out on the infield of the stock car track providing ample seating for spectator viewing within the grandstands of Wyoming County International Speedway (WCIS). RMR representatives estimate the equivalent of 1000 truckloads of snow will be needed to build the racing surface with the primary finish line jump, 60 feet wide, 18 feet tall and 120 feet long. As the technology of snowmobiles continues to develop, teams find ways to thrill the fans with Big Air and Faster Speeds.

One hundred and twenty (120)+ teams are expected to travel into the region bringing crews and fans to support their efforts. RMR spectators of last season ranged from several thousand per event to over 10,000 visitors cheering on the high-flying action. The two-day event also welcomes local racers and encourages them to compete in trail classes where they will gain experience for future events. ISR Rules and Applications can be found on www.rockmaple.com.

Regional snowmobile dealers will display and promote new products for the enjoyment of the fans. The WCIS midway will be designed to promote their product lines. The U.S. Army will provide warming tents and hot food and drinks will be available at the WCIS concession stands. The Oatka Valley Snowmobile Club will supply support to the RMR event with the use of the club Groomer, volunteer plow and cleanup personnel, and special NYS trail signage.

Fans are encouraged to gather up friends and make a weekend tour of the trails leading to Wyoming County International Speedway.  At the gates, special sled parking will be available. Free camping is also available for the diehard fans willing to brave the weather and party all weekend.
