PERRY, NY… Labor Day weekend saw sunny skies and perfect racing conditions welcomed the fans to the Bullring for the annual SST 100 for Modifieds. Also on the card were the TQ Midgets, SST Super Stocks and 4 Cylinders, a concert by Billy D. and a 5000-penny pickup presented by the Bank of Castile. At the conclusion of Sunday night’s events, the fans were treated to a Labor Day fireworks show.

Andy Jankowiak picked up the victory in the Labor Day 100 for the mighty SST Modifieds. He used tire strategy along with track position to get around Joe Evans on lap 23 and led the remaining 77 laps for the popular win. Jeff Patton and Jerry Gradl Jr led the strong field for the start of the 100-lap affair and the first lap wasn’t even completed when Dan Hoag slapped the front straightaway wall ending his night early. The yellows would continue to fly soon after with Sherri Hogan dropping fluid on the speedway and then on the following lap Patton slapped the back stretch wall causing the caution.

Young driver Patrick Emerling saw his night end early as well as he had over heating problems causing his car to cease on the main straightaway and needing assistance to get the car pit-side where it would be for the rest of the duration. Defending SST Series Champion Joe Evans had his night end on lap 23 when the head gasket blew on his ride. Unfortunately, for Evans, this is not the way he intended to celebrate hi 18th birthday with his night coming to an early end. Evans was part of a great four-car battle with Jankowiak, John Barber and Amy Catalano. Barber, the ten-time feature winner this season at WCIS had many opportunities to get around Jankowiak but was to no avail as the Jim and Bob Service machine found himself in victory lane a night after having his points lead at Dunn Tire Raceway Park slip away from him. Barber would finish second in front of the 2009 Spencer Speedway champion Amy Catalano. Kevin Lewis had a quiet and successful evening to come home in forth with veteran driver Greg Utberg finishing in fifth.

The term cautions bleed cautions was a phrase heard throughout the sound system during the Super Stock feature. Brian Gleason and Mike Chenaille led the competitive field for the start of the 25-lap event with Gleason getting out to the early lead. Early race cautions slowed the pace of the feature including race leader at the time Brian Gleason and defending track champion Brian Gordon was stuck together and when push came to shove it was Gleason getting the worse end of the deal. Gleason stepped on the breaks to cut himself loose from Gordon’s bumper and spins on the front stretch. Both Gordon and Gleason were able to resume racing. After all of that was said and done Bobby Lippa Jr was up front and he would keep the rest of the Super Stocks behind him as he picked up his eighth feature win on the season. Brian Gordon came back through the pack to finish second as did Brian Gleason who came home in third. Chenaille and Tony Pangrazio would round out the top five. The next SST Modified Tour race is Fri. Sept 11 2009 at Oswego Speedway the Race of Champions.

Matt Druar showed up to WCIS for the first time and found himself in victory lane after the 20-lap feature event. The Clarence driver led only one lap in the feature event. The lap counted the most as Druar made sure; his car was upfront by a nose when the checkered flags flew.

TJ Drennen and Brian Johnson led the field for the start with Johnson getting the lead.

Eric Haistreiter decided it was his turn at the front of the field as he passed Johnson on lap four and looked like he was the car to beat. Then enter into the picture Matt Druar the 2009 4-Cylinder Champion over at Dunn Tire Raceway Park. Druar passed Haistreiter coming out of turn two on the final lap to pick up his first career win at the Bullring. Haistreiter would take home second followed by Gert McDonald, Brian Johnson and Austyn Fugle.

The Casey’s TQ Midgets made their return to the Bullring on Sunday night as another strong field was on hand for the 20-lap affair. Jim Fleischman and Jonathan Reid led the field for the start with Reid leading the way early in the event. Bobby Holmes and Reid battled for several laps side by side until Holmes took over the lead for good on lap five and didn’t look back to pick up the victory. Dave Wollaber, a Team Vinnie teammate to Holmes came across the line in second followed by Justin Mapes finishing in third.
