Jim Love Wins 1st of 2012 at WCIS

PERRY, NY… Sunshine and Blue Skies welcomed fans and the drivers to Wyoming County International Speedway for Cruise Night and Sticker Day. The kids and adults alike enjoyed the rides in racecars during intermission as well as a little preview for the upcoming Junkyard Soccer. On the third mile Bullring, Jim Love from Groveland, NY took top honors in the SST Modifieds. Fairport, NY pilot and two time defending track champion Phil Alhart Jr won the SST Super Stock feature and Gainesville, NY driver Eric Hastreiter won the competitive 4 Cylinder feature. Rich Zellner edged out teammate Mark Loveland for his first career feature win for the Western New York Vintage Late Models.
Heat winner Jim Love and second generation driver Ed Schueler led the field of SST Modifieds to the green flag for their 30 lap feature event with Love out to the early lead with Opening Night feature winner Dick Kluth running in second and Bob Wilson Jr running in third. The top three; Love, Kluth and Wilson pulled away from the rest of the field and Love was able to hold off Kluth to score his first win since 2011. Bob Wilson Jr came home in third for his best career finish at Wyoming County.
Brad Collings and Alan Bookmiller led the Super Stocks to the green flag and it was Collings out in the lead. Daniel Majchrzak was able to take the lead away from Bookmiller on lap number three. Majchrzak continued to set the pace and was leading but had pressure behind him from Phil Alhart Jr and Bookmiller. With two laps remaining, Majchrzak suffered a flat right front tire and he would pull his X-Cel Wireless number 14 to the top of turn four to bring out the caution, setting up a Green-White-Checkered finish. The restart saw Phil Alhart Jr leading Alan Bookmiller and Ronnie Greek and Alhart was able to pick up his second win of 2012 at the Bullring over Bookmiller who came home a career best second place and Ron Greek rounded out the top three.
The Western New York Vintage Late Models returned for their second visit of 2012 to the Wyoming County Bullring and it was Rich Zellner winning his first career feature event. He held off all challenges from “Mc Lovin” Mark Loveland and Ray Hadsell to grab the win. The Vintage Late Models return to WCIS in just a couple of weeks.
Heat winner Josh Beardsley and Kevin Grom led the Four Cylinders to the green flag in their 20 lap feature event and it was Beardsley leading the opening circuits. Beardsley, Grom and Eric Hastreiter would battle for the top spot for much of the event and Hastreiter was able to get around Beardsley and Grom on lap six to take over the lead and he never looked back, picking up his second win of 2012 over Beardsley and Grom.
WCIS returns to action on Friday June 15th for a regular program featuring the SST Modifieds, Super Stocks and 4 Cylinders. The popular Kids Bike Race will take place during intermission. Gates open at 5:00pm for both the pits and the grandstands and racing will get underway at 7:30pm sharp.
