Wyoming County International Speedway was greeted with another excellent Friday night for racing on Aloha Night at the Bullring. With the SST Modifieds having the night off the Super Stocks took center stage. To add to the excitement for the Super Stocks, the had their highest car count of the season with 15 teams pit side for what turned out to be a wild affair.

Steve Vinyard of Perry won the 25-lap feature for his first-ever checkered flag at the Perry Bullring. He started on the outside of row one along side pole-sitter Ken Barber. Barber and Vinyard battled side by side for the first few laps with Vinyard holding a slight edge.

The first yellow flag of the race came out on lap three when Jim Frandsen spun on the backstretch. Vinyard restarted the race on the pole and he reassumed command of the field. Jacob Logsdon followed him from the inside of the second row into the runner up spot.

On lap seven points leader Kevin Herbert spun on the front stretch while racing in heavy traffic. Dan Scott was forced to drop out of the race at this juncture when something broke in the right front suspension. Tony Pangrazio was forced to go to the rear of the field for contact with Herbert.

Jacob Logsdon benefited from the ensuing restart, as he was perched to the outside of Vinyard when the green flag came out again. Logsdon took the lead from Vinyard on lap nine after they race wheel to wheel for a couple of laps. However his turn as the leader was short lived. On lap 13, Logsdon got loose coming out of turn four and it allowed Vinyard and Ken Barber to get by.

Brian Gleason broke a right front suspension part on lap 16 to bring out the yellow flag for a third time. Then on lap 19, Ken Barber sent a shower of sparks into the air when his rear end fell apart while running in second.

Todd Stone was set to inherit second from Barber, but he had a right rear tire go down under yellow and was forced to pit. This put Tony Pangrazio into second place with six laps to go.

It would not matter to Vinyard though as he was lightning quick on restarts and was able to pull away each time, including two occasions with two laps to go. Vinyard cruised to the win as visited victory lane for the first time ever in the Super Stocks at WCIS.

Pangrazio held on for a second place finish and made up some ground on Kevin Herbert in the standings. Chad McDonald from Chemung finished third in his first Bullring appearance of the season. Fellow Chemung-native Tom Cundy finished fourth despite missing the heat races with power steering problems. Kevin Herbert rounded out the top five.

Kevin Miller of Spencerport won the 25-lap 4-Cylinder Wasp feature. It was the first career win for the 15-year-old rookie. Miller passed Eric Hastrieter for the lead on lap 10 and drove the final 15 laps virtually uncontested.

Miller becomes the fifth different winner in the Wasps this season and the third different first-time winner. Bill Verwys extended his points lead with a second place finish despite handling problems. Otis Bradshaw finished third. Robert Dennie and Chris Joned rounded out the top five.

Bobby Holmes of Lockport won the 25-lap Casey’s Midget Series feature. Holmes led the final 17 laps for the win after passing Jim Fleischmann on lap 8. Holmes’s Englewood Collision Racing teammate, Dave Wollaber, was the dominant car early on but he ran into brake problems and was forced to retire.

It was the second win of the season for Holmes on the Casey’s Midget Series trail. Fleischmann was the runner up. Wayne Turnbull, Justin Mapes, and AJ Hessler completed the top five finishers.

Next week, July 27, is Pirate Night at WCIS featuring the first ever Pirate Trailer Race. The SST Modifieds will be back as well joining the Super Stocks and 4-Cylinder Wasps. Racing starts at 7:30 PM. The Lazy Sunday Series continues on Sunday, July 29 with the Street Stocks and the Legends. Racing starts at 2:30 PM for Sunday afternoons.
